Palm Beach’s Lake Trail

On a lazy day, hitting the Lake Trail is an ideal way to spend the day either walking, running, or on wheels (bike or skates, of course! No cars are allowed on this trail!). Palm Beach founder Henry Flagler built the lake trail in 1894 for a place for hotel guests to stroll. The paved stretch spans from Worth Avenue north approximately 5 miles.  A southern trail runs approximately 3 miles from Ibis Isle south to Lantana.

You will need to plan accordingly for the trip — there are no public restrooms and very few trashcans along the route. If you bring a picnic, plan to carry your garbage. Try to obtain a map as the trail is sometimes confusing and not continuous — forcing you to cross a busy intersection here and there.

When you are feeling the urge to hit the trail, be sure to bring your sunscreen! The breeze is wonderful off the water and will keep you cool — but it won’t keep the sun from burning you up! You will enjoy Palm Beach real estate at its finest– the few without large privacy hedges. Upon Lake Worth (also known as the Intracoastal), you will view gorgeous yachts and sailboats that will astound!

Typically peaceful, you may hit a day that the trails are packed with Palm Beachers… especially during the season. In the early evening, you will find many walking their fluffy dogs along the waterway. Watch the water for manatees and sting rays — and keep your eyes in the trees for the lovely wild parrots that inhabit the island — you will certainly hear them!
